As the art world prepares to alight in Basel, Switzerland, this month, Liste Art Fair Basel is gearing up for its largest edition ever, bringing together 106 exhibitors hailing from 36 countries. Now in its 29th year, the focus of Liste remains firmly on emerging galleries and artists, presenting a decisive moment to take in and observe the state of art-making in the present moment, as well as discover the trends, preoccupations, and experiments of a new generation of artists.

A painting on canvas depicting a freestanding oval bathtub with a dusty rose/terracotta-pink exterior and cream-white interior rim, viewed from slightly above. A gray textured towel drapes over the left side of the tub. Behind the tub, a wall is rendered in horizontal bands of muted pink and gray, with black matte bathroom fixtures — a handheld showerhead on a hose and a wall-mounted faucet with a square plate — mounted against the gray band. The floor is a warm tan. The composition is flat and graphic, with simplified forms and a muted, earthy palette. Featured at Liste Art Fair Basel 2026.

Among the expanded roster of participants, 41 will be making their debut at Liste, including Pangée, Montreal, with new works by Bronson Smillie; Matta, Milan, showcasing site-specific paintings by Maximilian Arnold; and Gallery Ver, Bangkok, presenting a dual-artist presentation by Miyabi and Mookmintra Jariyavidyanont, just to name a few.

The foundation of Liste, however, will be carried on by the 65 returning galleries, like Lovay Fine Arts, Geneva, with a booth dedicated to American artist Jay Payton who was the subject of their first European solo in May 2026. Others include Temnikova & Kasela, Tallinn, with work by Johanna Ulfsak in a joint booth with Suprainfinit, Bucharest, showcasing their jointly represented artist Daria Koltsova; and Galerie Khoshbakht, Cologne, featuring a new installation piece by Prateek Vijan that combines sculpture and projection to interrogate museum security structures.

A close-up of two large-scale figurative sculptures against a white gallery wall. The dominant figure is uniformly painted bright green and depicts a smiling young person wearing a military-style garrison cap and a button-up shirt with chest pockets and epaulettes, leaning slightly forward with hands resting on a surface. To the right, seen from behind, is a smaller gray-painted figure wearing a wide-brimmed hat and jacket, holding a gray clothes iron. The green figure appears to be ironing or interacting across what appears to be an ironing board. Both sculptures are rendered in meticulous detail — fabric folds, buttons, and facial features — with each figure monochromatic in a single flat color. Featured at Liste Art Fair Basel 2026.

As reflected in even just the few mentioned above, Liste 2026 remains committed to bringing together a diverse range of international galleries and artists. In the forthcoming edition, there will once again be a strong presence of European and U.S. galleries, but also a sizable contingent of Seoul-based galleries—Whistle, Cylinder, and Primary Practice—highlighting the city’s growing global reach.

Beyond the exhibitor booths, Liste has announce a comprehensive schedule of programming, with performances, talks, tours, film screenings, book presentations, and workshops for children throughout the duration of the fair. With that, Liste can be considered less a static series of exhibits but a dynamic, evolving experience that situates critical engagement in all its forms as a cornerstone of its ethos and execution.

A framed painting in a thin silver metal frame, hung on a white wall. The work depicts a loosely rendered, close-cropped figure — suggestive of a reclining or sleeping person — rendered in soft peach, cream, and yellow tones on the left, dissolving into washes of lavender and purple on the right. Across the right side, bold block letters spell

And building on the developments of the last few years, the fair will finally continue to expand its “Wall” initiative. In 2021, Liste relocated from Warteck to Messe Basel (just steps from the Messeplatz and entrance to Art Basel), providing an opportunity for architectural intervention. Last year, Basel firm Martina Kausch Architektinnen developed a new, flexible wall surface system, activated by projects produced by invited artist-run initiatives. Independently curated, five of these projects will go on display by Beau Travail, Stockholm; Cherry Hill, Cologne; Courtney Jaeger, Basel; Radio Athènes, Athens; and O-Town House, Los Angeles.

Together, Liste 2026 promises to be a beacon of new and emerging art and artists, and offer visitors an unparalleled, multifaceted experience in the heart of Basel’s fair week.

Liste Art Fair Basel will be held June 15–21, 2026, at Messe Basel, Hall 1.1.
