Royal weddings are more expensive than celebrity weddings due to the high cost of security.
Getting married is a major milestone, and couples are willing to pay a steep price to have the day of their dreams. That’s all magnified when one or both partners are rich and famous. Hollywood stars and music industry mainstays typically have access to a much larger budget than the average soon-to-be-weds. For these couples, a wedding can cost tens of millions—and become quite the spectacle in the process.
2026 alone has featured its share of pricey parties. Taylor Swift (singer and multi-billionaire bride) reportedly rented out Madison Square Garden to create the perfect venue for her and Travis Kelce’s NYC celebration. Dua Lipa and Callum Turner, meanwhile, danced the night away dolce vita–style at the opulent Villa Valguarnera mansion in Sicily, according to Vanity Fair. What Tom Holland and Zendaya did for their ‘I do’s, the world may never know, but it was probably fabulously low-key like their relationship.
There is one type of celebrity wedding that stands out from the rest. Royal weddings are on a tier of their own due to extensive security costs, with Princess Diana and Prince Charles’s 1981 nuptials costing an estimated $48 million ($135 million when adjusted for inflation), per Smithsonian Magazine. Kate Middleton and Prince William, meanwhile, shelled out about $34 million for their 2011 union, according to Business Insider. The same outlet reported that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s 2018 ceremony topped William and Kate’s with a final price tag of $45.8 million.
It’s hard to find a star couple that doesn’t go all-out for their nuptials, given that they have a whole lot of cash to throw at the venue, catering, decor, and multiple outfit changes. But who’s hosted the most extravagant vows in history (excluding the royals)? Ahead, find out more about the 10 most expensive celebrity weddings of all time.
