Picture this: You meander over to a lounge chair to take in the mountain and city views, passing by a waterfall on the way. The stillness and calm feel comparable to being out in nature, far removed from the roars of automobile engines and the hustle and bustle of everyday life. But you’re not roughing it out in the wilderness. You’re in one of the most luxurious and exclusive resorts in metro Phoenix.

Canyon Suites at The Phoenician just opened The Villas at Canyon Suites, a new exclusive enclave of private, single-story villas at the base of Camelback Mountain that sets a new standard of luxury for the iconic resort.

The Villas at Canyon Suites hosted its first guests on Jan. 29. Its first full week is a busy one; they’re sold out for the WM Phoenix Open, said Q Martin, Canyon Suites’ director of operations.

What’s in The Villas at Canyon Suites at The Phoenician?

Canyon Suites has eight villas: four with two bedrooms, two with three bedrooms and another two with four bedrooms.

The villas rival the space of a single-family home, ranging from 2,500 square feet for a two-bed villa to 3,450 square feet for a four-bed villa.

Each villa is designed to give guests an intimate experience and a residential aesthetic that elicits a home-away-from-home feeling. They include gas fireplaces, floor-to-ceiling stackable glass doors, outdoor patios and kitchen and dining areas with a full range of appliances and utensils.

From the patio, guests can see the Valley and the resort’s golf courses. The three- and four-bed villas each have their own hot tubs.

What amenities does The Phoenician offer?

Villa guests can access any of The Phoenician and Canyon Suites’ amenities, which include pool complexes at both resorts, eight restaurants, a spa, an 18-hole championship golf course, an athletic club and tennis and pickleball courts.

Some villa amenities — such as a private villa golf cart and a private pool complex — are exclusive to the villas, enhancing the experience for guests who prize what Martin described as “secluded luxury.”

Other experiences exclusive to villa guests include meals from a private chef, in-room spa treatments, bartender and mixology services, pre-arrival grocery delivery, floral arrangements and guest services tailored to a guest’s stay and the reason for their visit.

“A lot of hotels overthink what luxury service is,” Martin said. “To me, it’s one conversation with a guest. It’s what you do with that information.”

Hotel staff think the bespoke, personalized touches are what elevate the experience for luxury resort guests “who experience nothing less than the extraordinary.”

Does The Phoenician have free breakfast?

Also part of the villa experience is free breakfast.

Guests have the option to have breakfast delivered to them or enjoy the Canyon Suites’ executive breakfast at the resort’s Canyon Lounge, served from 7 to 11 a.m.

    Is The Phoenician nice?

The Villas at Canyon Suites are the evolution of what started as simply a room upgrade for Phoenician guests. Now, it’s a “resort within a resort” with unparalleled luxury in metro Phoenix, a reputation that the opening of The Villas helps extend, Martin said.

The Villas, which hotel staff began developing in 2021, were conceived when hotel staff noticed that many multigenerational families were interested in staying in the suites, but their largest suite couldn’t accommodate the size of the families, he said.

Such families and large groups are the target demographic for the villas. Martin said these groups tend to book short-term rentals on websites like Airbnb and might not be used to the level of service a resort like The Phoenician offers.

“It’s like an Airbnb, but you’re in the only five-star resort in the Valley,” Martin said. “You don’t have to do your own chores before you leave. That’s what we’re here for.”

How much does it cost to stay at The Villas at Canyon Suites?

Villas typically start around $1,100 to $1,200 per night per room, but it fluctuates based on the season, according to hotel staff.

The Arizona Republic found villas available for a May 4-9 stay at $2,863 per night for a two-room villa, $3,511 per night for a three-room villa and $4,159 per night for a four-room villa. The rates include the $65 per night resort fee, which covers perks such as valet parking, internet, car service to and from Scottsdale Fashion Square, hiking gear, a craft beer tasting and an hour of tennis court time.

Is parking free at the Phoenician?

Parking is included in the resort fee for Canyon Suites and villa guests. But it costs extra for guests at the main Phoenician resort.

Phoenician guests must pay $30 per night to self-park or $50 per night for valet parking.
