Few figures in American lifestyle and media are as instantly recognizable—or as endlessly admired—as Martha Stewart. From humble beginnings in New Jersey, Stewart built an empire that transformed homemaking into high art. With bestselling books, a magazine, a television network, and a sprawling lifestyle brand, she became synonymous with impeccable taste, culinary expertise, and entrepreneurial savvy. Along the way, she earned accolades ranging from James Beard Awards to multiple Emmys, cementing her status as a cultural icon.

Stewart’s journey hasn’t been without setbacks. In 2004, she served five months in federal prison on charges related to insider trading—a chapter she has openly acknowledged and moved beyond, returning with renewed vigor to expand her business empire. Today, her net worth is estimated to be around $400 million, a testament to her resilience, vision, and ability to pivot across industries while maintaining an unmistakable personal brand.

Her personal life has been as meticulously shaped as her brand, and her real estate choices reflect that same sensibility. Over the years, she has owned notable properties in East Hampton—including her well-known Lily Pond Lane estate, which she sold to Huffington Post co-founder Kenneth Lerer for $16.5 million in 2021—and in South Westport, Connecticut, where her former 6,710-square-foot home on Turkey Hill Road sold to philanthropists Evan and Kaylee Rutchik for $6.7 million in 2007. Together, these homes and her current holdings trace a clear through line of taste, investment, and lifestyle that mirrors Stewart’s own evolution.

As Stewart continues to cultivate her legacy, her estates—from city pied-à-terres to coastal Maine retreats and sprawling country farms—offer a window into the world of one of America’s most enduring tastemakers.

Stewart’s legendary Skylands sits just outside Acadia National Park in Seal Harbor, Maine. Stewart purchased the estate in 1997 for an undisclosed sum as a summer escape from the city, and over the years she has added modern luxuries—including a recently completed infinity pool—without compromising its historic character

Built in 1925 for auto executive Edsel Ford, the 12-bedroom, seven-and-a-half-bath abode occupies a sprawling coastal property overlooking Frenchman Bay, with panoramic views of the mountains and Atlantic beyond. A pink-granite driveway winds through formal gardens, stone terraces, and walking paths that blend seamlessly with Maine’s rugged terrain, while side-by-side tennis courts—added by the previous owners—offer both recreation space and historic charm. Inside, sun-drenched rooms showcase period-appropriate antiques, fine textiles, and elegant details like coffered ceilings, custom millwork, and expansive windows framing the scenery.

The property sits alongside other Stewart holdings in Mount Desert: a 6,805-square-foot lodge with nine bedrooms and seven-and-a-half baths acquired in 2015 for $4.2 million, and a historic 2,049-square-foot home on Main Street.

Stewart’s primary residence, Cantitoe Corners—also known as Bedford Farm—is a 153-acre estate in Katonah, New York, roughly an hour and a half from Manhattan. She began assembling the property in 2000, paying $1.6 million, $1.1 million, and $10.5 million for separate parcels, ultimately restoring the estate to a single sprawling property encompassing five homes—a 1784 farmhouse, a 1929 Colonial-style winter house, an 1897 cottage, and two residences built in 1969.

Over the years, Stewart has developed equestrian facilities, including stables, paddocks, and riding trails, alongside expansive meadows, woodlands, and gardens. The main house features sunlit rooms, artisanal finishes, and kitchens equipped to reflect Stewart’s legendary culinary expertise. Additional structures include a greenhouse, pool, and outbuildings that support her gardens and farm operations. The property also hosts a menagerie of animals. Think horses, peacocks, donkeys, and more. Over two decades, Cantitoe Corners has become a social hub as well, hosting seasonal celebrations and summer parties.

In April 2024, Stewart and her daughter, Alexis, purchased a six-bedroom, six-and-a-half-bath apartment at the Belnord on Manhattan’s Upper West Side for $12.3 million—well below the $18 million asking price. The 4,637-square-foot home occupies a corner of the storied 1908 landmark, reimagined by architect Robert A.M. Stern. Fun fact: Fans might recognize the building as the setting of Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, starring Selena Gomez, Steve Martin, and Martin Short.

The residence combines classic prewar grandeur with contemporary touches, including heated bathroom floors, cerused oak and white lacquer kitchens, expansive windows, and soaring ceilings. Elsewhere, a Pilates studio and state-of-the-art fitness center are among the amenities available to residents.
