KISS co-founder Gene Simmons chats with USA TODAY’s Melissa Ruggieri about his decades of touring, the stunts he performed on stage and more.
Gene Simmons has spoken out after reports surfaced that he was involved in a car crash in Malibu, California.
“Thanks, everybody, for the kind wishes,” Simmons wrote in an Oct. 8 X post. “I’m completely fine. I had a slight fender bender. It happens. Especially to those of us (who are) horrible drivers. And that’s me. All is well.”
According to NBC 4 Los Angeles, while driving on the Pacific Coast Highway on Tuesday, Oct. 7, the 76-year-old KISS frontman crashed his vehicle into a parked car. A bystander reportedly called 911, and officers from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department subsequently came to the scene.
USA TODAY has reached out to LASD and representatives for Simmons for comment.
Following the crash, Simmons was hospitalized for evaluation, police told NBC. Authorities said Simmons detailed the car accident to first responders, revealing that he passed out or fainted and then crashed into the parked vehicle.
Simmons’ wife, Shannon Tweed, told NBC that the singer is currently recovering at home.
The tireless rocker embarked on a solo tour in the spring with his solo band, comprised of Brent Woods on lead guitar, Jason Walker on guitar and Brian Tichy on drums. In a March interview with USA TODAY, Simmons cheekily opened up about the secret to his longevity.
“You see my hand?” It does not shake, and I’m 75,” Simmons said at the time. “Kids, don’t do drugs and booze, and stop smoking.”
