OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – D.R. Horton announced it is acquiring Nebraska-based Celebrity Homes, a move real estate leaders say will expand homebuilding in the Omaha area.

Both builders have a presence in West Omaha, where each has developed subdivisions focused on new and affordable housing.

What the deal includes

D.R. Horton said only finished lots will be acquired. Home contracts and warranties currently held under Celebrity Homes will remain in place.

Trenton Magid, executive vice president at NAI NP Dodge Commercial Real Estate, said the acquisition positions D.R. Horton for faster growth in the market.

“Omaha is short on housing stock and D.R. Horton is on the fast track to build more and more homes,” Magid said.

He added that Celebrity Homes’ existing inventory of neighborhoods will factor into that expansion.

“Given the buildable lots and having the Celebrity inventory of neighborhoods will definitely accelerate D.R. Horton’s growth,” Magid said.

Chamber praises the move

Heath Mello, the president and CEO of the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce also praised the decision, saying in a statement that “investments like this help expand housing opportunities for residents and support the broader economic vitality of our region.”

Magid said current homebuyers are unlikely to notice a significant change.

“Celebrity did a great job. And so I don’t think the average home buyer is going to notice much of a difference,” he said.

Celebrity Homes has been in business since 1977 and operates seven subdivisions throughout West Omaha.
