The Franklin Fire continued to burn in Malibu, California, on Tuesday morning, threatening celebrities’ homes.
The Franklin Fire ignited Monday night after days of extremely dangerous fire conditions when Santa Ana winds whipped across the region. Mandatory evacuation orders are in place east of Malibu Canyon Road and South of Piuma Road, as well as the Serra Retreat area.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department told Newsweek that in the roughly 12 hours since it ignited, the fire has exploded to 2,200 acres.

One of the most recent updates from Malibu’s government warned that the fire “continues to pose a significant threat,” prompting the closure of all city schools amid safety concerns. Much of the exclusive, beachfront community has been evacuated.
Many celebrities live on the western side of Malibu, much of which is under an evacuation warning. Further east, the area around Pepperdine University and Tuna Canyon Park is under an evacuation order. This region also includes Malibu Colony, a gated community where some celebrities live.
Countless celebrities have chosen Malibu as their home. Below is a list of some of them who live near the fire.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z
Perhaps most notable are Beyoncé and her husband, Jay-Z, who purchased their nearly $200 million Malibu mansion in 2023, the most expensive home in California history, according to Architectural Digest. The home is in Paradise Cove, which is in the Franklin Fire evacuation warning area.
Jonah Hill
In 2022, Architectural Digest reported that 21 Jump Street actor Jonah Hill purchased a home in the Malibu Colony community. The neighborhood is included in the mandatory evacuation orders prompted by the Franklin Fire.
Julia Roberts
Julia Roberts reportedly owns a home in Malibu’s Point Dume neighborhood, west of the raging flames. The region is under evacuation warning, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection’s website.
The Pretty Woman star has owned the home since 2003, Architectural Digest reported.
Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga also lives within the evacuation warning zones, in a mansion in Zuma Beach. The Grammy-winning singer bought the more than 10,000-square-foot mansion in 2014 and has lived there since. Lady Gaga calls her home her “gypsy palace” and has referred to the luxurious property as an oasis.
The Malibu flames also bring a heartbreaking reminder to many people living in the region, as some are still rebuilding from the 2018 Woolsey Fire that erupted in November of that year. The devastating blaze killed three people and burned more than 1,600 structures, including homes owned by actor Gerard Butler and singer Miley Cyrus.
