The Department of State has renewed a travel warning for the Republic of Maldives, warning potential visitors of ongoing issues of terrorism. On Tuesday, the agency reissued language for a previous Level 2 travel warning for the popular destination located south of India in the Indian Ocean.
A Level 2 warning advises travelers to “exercise increased caution” and is the second least serious warning on the agency’s four-tier scale.
The State Department reissued the warning, advising that there are risks of terrorist attacks and violence in Maldives. Attacks can occur at tourist locations, transportation hubs, markets and shopping malls, and local government facilities. The agency also warns that attacks can occur on remote islands, potentially delaying response times from authorities.

- Monitor local media for breaking news. Be prepared to adjust your plans.
- Stay aware of your surroundings.
- Avoid demonstrations and crowds.
