Deep Greens and Blues in Jwala Gutta’s Home

Jwala Gutta has never been someone who stays still for long. The champion shuttler—fourteen-time National Badminton champion—brings that same energy to everything she touches. So when she and her husband, film producer and actor Vishnu Vishal, handed over a bare-shell apartment in Kokapet, Hyderabad, to Bengaluru-based Thomas Parambil Architects, the brief was almost inevitable: a home built for movement, for family, for a life that rarely slows down.
What Parambil delivered across 5,700 square feet is the design visualization of the three ideas: open, welcoming, and expressive. The architect, who founded his practice in 2019, is known for context-sensitive work that typically operates in restrained, near-monochromatic territory. This project pushes him further, and the apartment reflects exactly what happens when a disciplined architect takes a considered step outside his comfort zone.

Natural light travels freely across the interior, diffused through layered materials, keeping the atmosphere consistent without feeling managed. The color palette is where the home states its personality most directly. A restrained beige undertone holds the composition together across the apartment. Against that foundation, different distinct tones operate in the living and dining areas: muted reds, terracotta, charcoal, blues, greens, and warm wood finishes. It is a lot of color to hold in a single field of view, and the fact that it doesn’t read as chaotic is the result of careful calibration across scale, texture, and placement.
