The Gist

  • Celebrity weddings have become a pop culture spectacle, due to their star-studded guest lists.

  • As such, attendees arrive wearing their absolute best, most attention-grabbing looks.

  • Stars like Emily Ratajkowski, Kylie Jenner, and more set the bar for wedding guest dressing.

When it comes to high-profile celebrity nuptials, wedding guest dressing is a thing entirely in itself. If A-listers are walking down the aisle, the usual standards of wedding guest etiquette simply do not apply.

Though most “I dos” are private affairs, celeb weddings have become a fashion and pop culture spectacle. The last few years have seen an uptick in both A-list and royal weddings, with stars like Hailey Bieber, Charli XCX, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Emily Ratajkowski, Millie Bobby Brown, and more marrying in the last few years alone. Naturally, the coinciding events are often better attended than most award shows—and supply plenty of fodder for the stylistically inclined.

While your average wedding guest would opt for a more subdued dress, so as not to take focus off the bride, those in Hollywood take a much more flamboyant approach. Like a red carpet or runway show, celebrities consider weddings just another excuse to see and be seen—and believe me, they don’t hold back. Your usual wedding reception no-gos—such as low-cut, lingerie-inspired, and even all-white dresses—are squarely on the menu. As a result, these star-studded soirees always provide plenty of high-fashion moments.

It’s just as well, because oftentimes, celebrity wedding dresses never make it into the public eye. Private weddings have recently risen in popularity, with stars like Zendaya choosing to say their vows away from the flashing lights of the paparazzi. Thankfully, however, their guests can be counted upon to supply the fashion moments fans crave. Ahead, we’re breaking down the most stylish celeb wedding guest looks from some of Hollywood’s best-dressed.

Last June, the world’s wealthiest flocked to Venice, Italy, for the wedding of controversial billionaire Jeff Bezos and his bride Lauren Sanchez. Naturally, beauty mogul Kylie Jenner was among the elite RSVPs, attending their extravagant nuptials in a custom-made satin dress from Turkish designer Dilara Findikoglu. Jenner wore an ankle-length column dress with elaborate lacing all down the front. The baby blue number featured bustier-style boning along the waist and structured bra cups, accented with delicate black bows. Though the look is probably more boudoir-inspired than most would prefer, it was a stunning number, nonetheless.

When Marc Jacobs and Char Defrancesco announced their engagement, the following nuptials were bound to result in some history-making fashion moments. Their guests happily obliged, with stars such as Kate Moss, Kaia Gerber, and Gigi and Bella Hadid arriving in their Marc Jacobs-coded best. Emily Ratajkowski provided the most stylish outfit of all, attending the New York City reception in a sunny yellow midi dress made of delicate silk. The plunging design was a custom creation from Saks Potts and featured a dramatic neckline and built-in scarf. Playing into the high-glamour aesthetic Jacobs is known for, Ratajkowski styled her look with metallic accessories and an elegant up-do.

Though Dua Lipa’s outfit for Simon Porte Jacquemus and Marco Maestri’s 2022 wedding was an unusual choice, the pop star undoubtedly nailed the dress code. Guests were asked to wear all-white for the August event, settling on Charleval, France, like a blanket of chicest snow. Lipa’s choice of look was a floor-length gown designed by the groom himself. The ivory creation was totally sheer, showing off Lipa’s matching white underwear. She merchandized the look with massive floral statement earrings and a black shoulder bag. The look read more like a bride than a guest, providing wedding-day inspiration for years to come.

The Kardashian sisters boast five marriages between them—needless to say, they know how to dress for a wedding. Last summer, Khloé Kardashian attended the Bezos Sanchez wedding alongside her famous sisters, and each sibling brought their own unique aesthetic. While Jenner’s outfit was notably lingerie-inspired, the youngest Kardashian sister went for Old Hollywood glamour. She wore a couture column dress by Dolce & Gabbana, covered entirely in baby-pink sequins. Kardashian only turned up the drama from there, adding a matching feathered duster jacket and a diamond-encrusted lariat necklace.

Securing an invite to the wedding of the century is a flex in itself—wearing your own design to said wedding is simply next-level. In 2018, Victoria Beckham and husband David Beckham attended Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s highly anticipated wedding. The event took place at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle, drawing the world’s most famous stars—Beckham among them. The pop star-turned-designer wore a navy shirt dress from her self-titled fashion brand. Embracing the prim-and-proper royal wedding aesthetic, Beckham matched the dress with a mesh-covered fascinator. She wore her arms out of the sleeves for a more unique styling and finished with crimson red pumps.

Amal Clooney

Of course, Beckham wasn’t the only stylish star in attendance. Amal Clooney was also in attendance, arriving arm-in-arm with her husband George Clooney. She, too, embraced the royal dress code, with a jaunty felt hat of her own. Hers featured a similar net detail, but with a wide brim. It’s bright yellow hue mimicked that of her modest pencil dress, which came with its own asymmetrical train built in. Taking a page out of Ratajkowski’s book, Clooney likewise styled her canary-colored ensemble with golden accessories.

Kendall Jenner

While one sister went for sultry elegance, another went for vintage glam, Kendall Jenner chose to fulfill the obligatory floral dress quota. For one of the many events attached to the Bezos Sanchez wedding, Jenner chose a summery halter dress covered in bright pink florals. She continued the vibrant color story in her makeup, as well, swiping pretty rose-colored blush across her cheeks and lips. Instead of doing the classic wedding-guest updo, the supermodel chose to style her hair in elegant waves befitting the waterfront venue.

Reese Witherspoon

In the category of floral wedding guest dresses, Reese Witherspoon supplied one of the best. In 2019, the actor attended a pre-wedding dinner for her Big Little Lies co-star Zoe Kravitz and her now ex-husband, Karl Glusma, in Paris, France. Though the dress wasn’t from her own fashion label, Draper James, it featured a wrap silhouette and vivid floral pattern—design details often utilized by the brand. Joining the ranks of Ratajkowski and Clooney, Witherspoon further proved that gold accessories are a wedding guest must. The star finished off her summery ’fit with a metallic clutch and matching heeled sandals.
