Two legends in Hollywood ended their relationship on September 19, 2025. Italian model and actress Monica Bellucci, 60, and American director and producer Tim Burton, 67, called it quits after two years together, announcing their split with a brief statement to AFP.
“It is with much respect and deep care for each other that Monica Bellucci and Tim Burton have decided to part ways,” the former couple said in their joint breakup announcement. The news comes two years after Bellucci confirmed her romance with the Wednesday director and one year after the premiere of Burton’s 2024 Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, in which he cast his then-girlfriend as Delores LaFerve, Betelgeuse’s ex-wife.
The couple was last seen together on the red carpet of the 55th Giffoni Film Festival in Italy on July 25, 2025. At the time, they were photographed holding hands and kissing.
Fans had mixed opinions about the split, and took to X to share their thoughts. “That’s sad to hear,” said one fan with a broken heart emoji. “They always seemed like such a unique and artistic pair.” Another agreed, adding, “It’s unfortunate to hear.” A third sad fan wrote, “Monica Bellucci and Tim Burton splitting feels like the end of a whole cinematic era.”
Monica Bellucci and Tim Burton Break Up
Not everyone was bummed by Bellucci and the Nightmare Before Christmas director’s breakup. One shared a gif of the legendary ’90s model and actress, writing, “How does one simply fumble the Monica Bellucci… like are y’all not embarrassed,” while another teased, “Two years, one goth castle, zero happy endings.” Some fans didn’t even realize they were dating, with one saying, “That’s how I learned they were together.”
Bellucci opened up about her romance with the legendary gothic director in June 2023, after he cast her in the Beetlejuice sequel. “It’s one of those encounters that rarely happens in life … I know the man, I love him, and now I’m going to meet the director — another adventure begins,” she told Elle France. “What I can say … I’m glad I met the man.”
Inside Monica Bellucci and Tim Burton’s High-Profile Relationships
Belucci and Burton have both been unlucky in love. The actress was married twice: to Claudio Carlos Basso from 1990 to 1994, and to French actor Vincent Cassel from 1999 to 2013.
Burton was married to Lena Gieseke from 1987 to 1991, and then had longterm relationships with several high-profile women, including actress Lisa Marie, who he featured in Ed Wood, Mars Attacks!, Sleepy Hollow, and Planet of the Apes. After, he welcomed two children, Billy and Nell, with actress Helena Bonham Carter, who starred in several of Burton’s films during their 13-year relationship from 2001 to 2014, including:
-
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)
