Celebrity IOU came back with another endearing renovation for a loved one.
The show focuses on celebrities who want to give back to some of the important people in their lives.
This time, the Scott Brothers welcomed actor Mario Lopez on the show.
The bio for the episode says (via TV Maze):
“Mario Lopez is back in the classroom to surprise his longtime friend and makeup artist with a kitchen and homeschool space renovation. With the help of Jonathan and Drew, they look to transform the family’s home for enhanced learning and optimal cooking.”
During the episode, Drew and Scott worked with Mario, who wanted to give his friend’s home a makeover.
Celebrity IOU: Mario wanted to surprise his friend Rod to lift his spirits after a difficult time
In the episode, Mario introduced his friend Rod, whom he fondly calls Tuddy.
He shared his childhood friend Rod has recently gotten through a health crisis.
Mario wanted to surprise his friend and to cheer him up with a surprise renovation.
The Scott brothers immediately went to work and even involved Mario in the renovation process.
Jonathan also gave a lesson or two to Mario about painting the walls.
He wanted Mario to join him in painting the house and show off some of his skills.
Mario was quite surprised at the equipment that is used for painting and stated:
“So impressed by the modern gadgetry and what happened to the old school wax-on, wax-off kind of thing?”
Jonathan admitted that even though that practice still continues but it should be avoided.
He said:
“Never never roller paint. If you are doing cabinet doors because you want that beautiful satin door finish…But I always spray, like, look how beautiful and flat that is. That’s what we want.”
Mario also loved the colour used for the cabinet and remarked that “it is something they are gonna like.”
One of the main focuses in the house was working on the living room and kitchen renovation.
As Rod’s three kids are homeschooled, Mario wanted the area in the first-floor living room to be appropriate for studying.
There were also a lot of fun behind-the-scenes moments for the fans.
Drew Scott shared one such video on his Instagram account.
In the video, Drew challenged Mario to hold a hammer straight-armed for a longer period of time.
Mario took on the challenge but called out Drew for giving him a heavier hammer.
Drew, at last, had to exchange the hammer and admitted that he “was already shaking.”
He started giving excuses before tapping out, saying:
“You know, I can just go for lunch right now. Grab some coffee. Are you getting nervous? Are you sweating? Oh! God, he is strong as I thought he was.”
More about the transformation of Tuddy’s home
The schoolroom turned out to be perfect, as it was now less cluttered than before.
Drew and Jonathan added more storage space with cabinets and drawers.
The space also could be used as a living and dining area.
The brothers, along with Mario, also worked on a corner, which will give kids a small area to hang out or read.
The kitchen also looked better than before with a high ceiling and a bit more space.
Drew and Jonathan Scott talked about their experience working with Mario Lopez in an interview with TV Insider and said:
“Mario is in shape and has big muscles, but we were like is it TV muscle or everyday muscle? He had never done a big renovation like this one before. He wanted to make sure this was good for his best friend and his family.”
Drew further continued:
“We’re taking a main common area and turning it into a living space plus a school space for the kids because they are homeschooled and did the kitchen. At the end of the day, he got in there and no matter what we asked him to do or try, he got in there to do it. Did he break a few things and damage a few things? Yes, but at the end of the day, we made it perfect.”
Stay tuned for more such updates.
