It helps to be a celebrity if you’re trying to sell a house — you get write-ups in The Wall Street Journal and fawning videos on Architectural Digest. (And who doesn’t want to own a charming little cabin that Dolly Parton lived in?) But as Michael Jordan knows, it can’t overcome the cold, hard forces of the market, especially if the house in question is wildly overpriced. In that spirit, we rounded up some notable celebrity homes that sat on the market all year. Poor things.
Ben and Jen’s marital home made waves this summer when new listing photos of the 12-bed, 24-bath contemporary Georgian-style mansion popped up on Zillow, leading to a wave of (correct) speculation that their marriage was over. In July, less than a year after the couple bought it, the house was officially listed for $68 million — an $8 million price jump. At 46,000 square feet the compound is huge and includes an indoor sports complex, a pool, and a 12-car garage. And still no one wants it! After seven years on the market, Lopez finally managed to sell her Madison Square Park penthouse this summer, only to have the Beverly Hills compound replace it as a real-estate albatross around her real-estate neck.
Baldwin has been trying to sell his Amagansett farmhouse since 2022, and he even made a sad video about it. It feels like maybe he doesn’t want to sell, but he has eight kids, legal fees related to the fatal Rust shooting, and Hilaria Baldwin. Originally, Baldwin listed the seven-bedroom, 10,000-square-foot home at 335 Town Lane for $29 million. It’s seen a series of price cuts over the years, and it dipped down to $18.9 million at the beginning of 2024. Brokers still thought it was overpriced, given its distance from the water, dated décor, and the fact that it’s owned by Alec Baldwin. In July, the listing was removed from Zillow. Barbara Corcoran warned him!
Jenner and Scott have been trying to sell their boxy gray seven-bedroom, ten-bath Beverly Hills estate since 2022, which is around the time that they split. It was originally listed for $21.9 million — over $7 million more than they bought it for in 2018. They slowly chopped the price, landing at $15.9 million this summer. Still, no dice. “They bought it for $13.5 million and have done some work to it, but even $13.5 million was a high number for that property,” luxury-real-estate broker Arvin Haddad told Realtor.com. They finally delisted in this fall — for now. They should also have listened to Barbara Corcoran.
There’s no mystery as to why Combs, who is currently in federal custody while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking and racketeering charges, hasn’t been able to sell his Holmby Hills mansion. Aside from its connection to Diddy, it’s also overpriced. The ten-bedroom, 13-bath house listed at $61 million in September after Combs paid $40 million for the place in 2014. He does, however, have an offer — Bo Belmont, the real-estate investor who previously bought Kanye West’s gutted Malibu mansion, released a press release last month saying his company was offering $30 million. As Belmont put it: “$30 million is better than no million.” Hard to argue with that.
The disgraced (but doing just fine) comedian has been on a selling spree, offloading his Hudson Square townhouse and Greenwich Village co-op in recent years. This summer, he put his six-bedroom, five-bathroom waterfront estate on Shelter Island up for sale for $9.25 million. Nicknamed the Primrose Cottage, the Tudor-style house was built in 1901 and was renovated by C.K. It includes six restored fireplaces, a gunite pool, and a blue-and-white tiled kitchen. The listing eventually saw a price drop to $7.9 million in September, then was removed altogether.
Lowe bought his four-bedroom, open-concept contemporary home in 2020 for $3.75 million. He put it on the market earlier this year for $6.5 million, cutting it down to $5.9 million by October. The 3,000-square-foot listing was removed for a few months but now Lowe is trying to sell it again, re-listing it in early December for $5.5 million. It comes with a pool, putting course, and black cabinetry, all of which affirms a Man lives in this house.
