The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is teaming up with RM of the K-pop boy band sensation BTS to publicly showcase the singer’s personal art collection for the first time ever.

“RM x SFMOMA” will bring together 200 works from both the South Korean artist and museum’s collections. Co-curated by RM and SFMOMA’s curatorial project manager América Castillo and assistant curator Hyoeun Kim, it will be on view from October 2026 through February 2027.

“We live in an age defined by boundaries. This exhibition at SFMOMA reflects those boundaries: between East and West, Korea and America, the modern and the contemporary, the personal and the universal,” RM said in a statement. “I don’t want to prescribe how these works should be seen; whether out of curiosity or study, all perspectives are welcome. My only hope is that this exhibition can be a small but sturdy bridge for many.”

Key figures in Korean art, such as Yun Hyong-keun, Park Rehyun and Kwon Okyon will be represented through RM’s collection, while works by Korean artist Kim Whanki and American and European artists like Mark Rothko, Henri Matisse and Georgia O’Keeffe will come from SFMOMA’s collection.

“Visitors will have an unprecedented opportunity to explore RM’s beautiful and contemplative collection of paintings and sculpture in dialogue with works from SFMOMA’s holdings, inviting us to make new discoveries and reflect on our own relationships with art,” Janet Bishop, SFMOMA’s chief curator, said in a statement.

In addition to collecting art, RM has been spending time reconnecting with his fans and BTS bandmates, after completing South Korea’s mandatory military service in June.

All seven members of the band – RM, Jin, V, Jimin, J-Hope, Jung Kook and Suga – appeared together for the first time in three years in July to announce they are back to work on new music and plan to set out on a global tour in 2026.

The band’s last global trek was 2021’s “Permission to Dance On Stage” tour.. BTS’ last local performance, however, was in 2018 at Oakland Arena for its “Love Yourself” tour.
