Could New York City’s Rent Guidelines Board be getting its Hollywood moment?
Douglas Elliman agent and reality TV star Eleonora Srugo’s name was reported by the New York Post as one of six candidates being nominated by Mayor Eric Adams in a bid to pack the RGB in an effort to thwart his likely successor Zohran Mamdani’s efforts to “Freeze the Rent.”
Srugo, however, remains cagey about the prospect, though admits to having early conversations.
“I have the will and desire to serve my city as a lifelong New Yorker and have robust experience that makes me consider how I can be helpful on this board,” she said. “I have to consider and weigh how my participation in the entertainment and unscripted television space will affect any board I join and vice versa.”
The potential of adding another hyphen to her multi-hyphenate lifestyle makes a nomination potentially difficult for her to juggle, she said.
Netflix has not yet announced if the Netflix show she stars in, “Selling the City,” will be renewed for season two.
During a conversation with The Real Deal in which she mostly denied the nomination rumors, she did also take time to point out that because she doesn’t work with landlords as an agent, she wouldn’t have a conflict of interest in an instance where she did end up nominated.
Srugo also disclosed that she had preliminary conversations with a senior official in the Adams administration and received application paperwork from the mayor’s office, but has not completed or submitted anything.
The one thing she emphatically denied was discussing any potential nomination with Adams, who holds the ultimate authority over who to put up for the board.
“Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, have I ever discussed this with the mayor,” she said. “And we talk all day long.”
The Post reported that Adams is planning to appoint at least six new members to the RGB.
Srugo has been an ardent supporter of Adams during his time in office. She has had a long-time friendship with the mayor, with the two often popping up at each other’s events or in photographs together. In July, Srugo launched a PAC to support Adams’ re-election bid, which he ended last month.
Like much of the city’s real estate community, she has also been outspoken in her opposition to a Mamdani mayoralty. On a recent radio appearance, she offered a blunt assessment: “I think he’s a total loser.”
