NBA champion and Dallas Maverick Klay Thompson has spent the offseason doing regular things, like working on his golf game and starting an internet-breaking romance with Houston rapper Megan Thee Stallion. But when a reporter asked Thompson about how his new woman has changed him, Thompson opted to keep his private life private.
Megan Thee Stallion shocked the internet in July by launching her relationship with Thompson on social media. What followed was a summer of couples videos and cute outings, like their special fishing trip or their golfing adventures. When a reporter asked Thompson if dating Megan Thee Stallion helps his game on and off the court during the Dallas Mavericks media day before the season kicks off on October 21, the NBA veteran brushed off the question.
“I’m not going to talk about that,” Thompson said. “But I will say that every summer doesn’t change for me, because I know what it takes to go the distance and there’s really no such thing as an offseason.”
While Thompson and Megan have been together throughout the offseason, the 35-year-old sharpshooter knows how important the summer is for preparing for the upcoming 82-game NBA season. Thompson has also been featured in multiple social media videos with Megan, where they work out together as a couple (Megan is well-versed in staying fit).
“The summertime is just as strenuous as the season and you have to train as if you’re going to play 100 a year. And that’s what I do,” Thompson continued.
Some took the comments as an indication that the mega-star couple could have broken up, especially after DJ Akademiks posted the interaction with the reporter. Megan has named and motioned for testimony from DJ Akademiks in her ongoing case against Canadian rapper Torey Lanez, who is serving prison time for shooting the Houston rapper in 2020.
Akademicks’ posting the clip may have sparked breakup rumors, but Thompson has a reputation for being a man of few words who is private about his personal life. He is also serious about his craft, coming from a winning culture in the Golden State, where he won four NBA titles and built a career as one of the greatest 3-point shooters to ever play in the NBA-something that demanded a ton of work and concentration over his career.
Further dampening the breakup rumors is the fact that just days prior to Thompson’s media day comments, Megan had made a post about Thompson on Instagram, referencing the upcoming season.
“Okay hotties my man gone to work now, yall ready for me?” Megan wrote in the Instagram caption, hinting that Thompson isn’t the only one who is about to go to work.
