An anonymous British celebrity was admitted to a psychiatric hospital after receiving a pair of letters containing 278 numbered points about alleged sexual misconduct, according to according to a 52-page High Court judgment released Tuesday.

The letters, sent by Independent Television News (ITN) and the Guardian on May 18, 2026, sought the man’s response to allegations that he used his fame and influence to pursue inappropriate sexual relationships with younger women.

The unnamed celebrity, identified in court only as “PPT,” told people close to him that he could not endure the adverse publicity and wanted to take his own life after receiving the letters, according to a High Court judgment.

His assistant described the steps he took and the urgent intervention that followed, with contemporaneous messages and documents cited in support of the account.

He was admitted voluntarily to a psychiatric hospital later that day.

His representatives argued that the scale and presentation of the allegations — laid out across 278 numbered points and accompanied by a short response deadline — contributed to his immediate mental health crisis.

The recently released judgement also states that the unknown celebrity has a history of recurrent depression, longstanding suicidal thoughts and previous suicidal behavior.

An expert appointed by the court, Psychiatrist Dr. Inti Qurashi, diagnosed him with Bipolar II disorder, with a current depressive episode, and identified vulnerabilities that affected his ability to cope with rejection, loss and severe distress.

The judgment also detailed a second suicide attempt in July, when the celebrity left the hospital during a period of leave.

His personal assistant intervened, and his representatives subsequently asked the media organizations to abandon or suspend their proposed reporting.

He later declined some recommended community mental health support, including crisis planning and voluntary admission.

By October, he had been detained under the Mental Health Act and was receiving inpatient psychiatric treatment.

The judge– Justice Nicklin – found that the prospect of publication, the decision allowing publication and publication itself would each substantially increase the celebrity’s risk of suicide. However, he also found that the risk was not inevitable and that psychiatric treatment could provide significant protection.

The legal fight stemmed from investigations by ITN and the Guardian into allegations that the celebrity abused his power and status to approach young women, some considerably younger than him, for inappropriate sexual activity. Some of the alleged conduct could amount to criminal offenses if proven.

    The man denies the allegations.

The Guardian had first approached him about allegations of inappropriate conduct in May 2022.

He denied them, and no article was published at the time.

The Guardian later joined forces with ITN on their investigation, which they said involved interviews with more than 100 people, including more than 30 sources with firsthand accounts, as well as reviews of contemporaneous messages, emails and documents.

The celebrity sought to block the outlets from publishing, arguing that disclosure would threaten his life and violate his rights to privacy and family life.

He also said the allegations becoming public could seriously damage his relationship with his son.

On Nov. 3, Judge Matthew Nicklin dismissed his claim, finding that the proposed reporting concerned matters of substantial public interest and that an injunction would be an exceptionally serious interference with the media organizations’ freedom of expression.

The judge emphasized that the case was not about deciding whether the allegations were true, but whether the outlets could be prevented from publishing them.

The celebrity has been granted permission to appeal, and his identity remains protected while that process plays out.
