One of the Caribbean’s Most Celebrated Luxury Resorts Is Now an Airelles Hotel

Le Guanahani began a new chapter in St. Barth on Nov. 1, bringing the French luxury collection to a celebrated peninsula with two beaches, colorful cottages and private-pool suites.

Le Guanahani is one of those names that has long belonged in the conversation about the Caribbean’s great hotels. The colorful cottages. The wooden verandas. The gardens running down to the water. The rare location on a peninsula between a sheltered lagoon and an ocean-facing beach — one many consider to be the best of any hotel property on the island.

On November 1, that familiar St. Barth address became Airelles Le Guanahani, the newest Airelles Maison in the world.

It’s a significant rebranding for one of the region’s most celebrated resorts, most recently known as Rosewood Le Guanahani St. Barth. The arrival of Airelles brings a new hospitality identity to a property whose reputation has always started with its extraordinary setting.

That’s what makes this opening particularly interesting. The hotel already has a history, a following and a place among the Caribbean’s most sought-after stays. Now a French luxury collection is taking it into its next chapter.

A Familiar Name, a New Identity

In St. Barth, hotels often have identities as iconic as the beaches they occupy. Repeat guests return to particular addresses for the view from a terrace, a favorite stretch of sand or the pleasure of staying somewhere they know well.

Le Guanahani has long been that kind of place; it had been operating as a Rosewood-branded resort since 2020, until its recent sale that led to the change.

Its individual accommodations, tropical gardens and two-beach setting give it a character distinct from a conventional beachfront hotel. You stay in a colorful maison, step onto a veranda and follow paths through the grounds toward the water.

The Airelles debut puts a new name above that experience. The collection’s current plans encompass the rooms and suites, La Table du Guanahani restaurant, three bars and a spa partnership with Laboratoires Botanique Avancée.

The Nov. 1 opening is huge if you’re stayed at Le Guanahani before — or have had it on a St. Barth wish list for years.

The Peninsula Is Still the Starting Point

The resort occupies seven hectares, approximately 17 acres, on the island’s northeastern coast, between Grand Cul-de-Sac Lagoon and Maréchal Bay.

That geography has always been central to its reputation.

On one side, Grand Cul-de-Sac offers sheltered water for kayaking, paddleboarding and snorkeling, with turtles among the marine life guests may spot. On the other, Maréchal Bay faces a more exposed ocean setting, with waves breaking against rocks.

They are two different ways to spend time beside the sea, available within the same hotel grounds.

We put a great deal of weight on setting when we look at Caribbean beach hotels. At Le Guanahani, the peninsula gives guests a choice throughout the day: the lagoon for a paddle, the opposite shore for a walk, a lounger with a different view in the afternoon.

It’s a substantial part of what made the resort celebrated in the first place.

The Cottages Remain Central to the Experience

Airelles describes the accommodations as individual maisons scattered through the gardens, with architecture drawing on Creole influences.

Colorful wooden verandas and large windows connect the interiors to the grounds. The arrangement gives the hotel a residential quality, with accommodations distributed between greenery and water.

The selection ranges from Ocean Bay and Ocean Cove rooms to a broad collection of suites. Private-pool choices include the Ocean Bay Pool Room, Garden Pool Suite, Ocean View Pool Suite and Beach Pool Suite.

That variety makes the booking decision more specific than simply choosing a room size.

A garden suite emphasizes privacy and planting. An ocean-view suite puts the sea ahead of you. A beach category makes proximity to the sand part of the stay.

Larger options include the Garden House and Bougainvillea Suite, each listed for up to seven adults, adding possibilities for families and groups sharing accommodations.

A New Dining and Spa Chapter

La Table du Guanahani overlooks the sea, serving buffet breakfast and lunch before shifting to a dinner menu with Caribbean influences and international classics.

Three bars offer different settings: Le Pélican facing the beach, the Pool Bar beside the swimming pool and The Library in the lobby.

The main infinity pool sits above the lagoon, with direct beach access. A second pool, reserved for adults, is tucked into the spa’s garden setting.

The Airelles Spa introduces a partnership with Laboratoires Botanique Avancée, or LBA, with treatments incorporating plant-based skincare and biotechnology. A fitness room and tennis add options beyond the beach.

These are the details that will define how the Airelles experience takes shape at the property, alongside the setting longtime guests already know.

    Why This Opening Matters

The Caribbean gets new luxury hotels every year. A change at Le Guanahani carries a different kind of interest because the address already means something.

Its reputation precedes the new name. Guests will arrive with memories, expectations and favorite places on the grounds.

Beginning November 1, Airelles takes responsibility for that legacy on a peninsula that remains one of St. Barth’s exceptional hotel settings. The new chapter starts with the same compelling invitation: a colorful cottage, a veranda and two beaches to choose from.
