Celebrity marriages are more likely to fail than those in the general population. High stress, unlimited options, and the watchful eye of the public tend to lead to quicker, messier breakups for celebrities. Still, some celebrity couples have weathered significant challenges and stayed together. We’ve collected a handful of pairs who opted to make it work despite infidelity becoming public knowledge.
Jay-Z and Beyoncé worked it out, then used his cheating to advance her career
Jay-Z and Beyoncé might have the most public cheating scandal in recent history. Murmurs that Jay-Z cheated on Beyoncé popped up in the tabloids every so often, even as they were still dating. The rumors continued through the couple’s early marriage. By 2014, the cheating was all but confirmed when Solange Knowles attacked Jay-Z in an elevator. The melee was believed to be connected to fallout from Jay-Z’s cheating on Beyoncé.
The couple didn’t initially speak about the incident. But Beyoncé’s 2016 album Lemonade confirmed the allegations and made fans try to figure out exactly who Jay-Z stepped out on his wife with. The rapper further confirmed the allegations with his own album the following year. Since then, the couple has presented a united front and made it clear they plan to stay together.
Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick weathered a cheating scandal, too
Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick have been together for what feels like forever. Over the years, they’ve discussed what makes their marriage work. While they appear to be the perfect couple, 2008 suggested the opposite was true. As Sarah Jessica Parker focused on her movie career, tabloid headlines emerged accusing Matthew Broderick of cheating with a 25-year-old mystery woman. Reports suggested he and Parker were headed for a divorce.
Neither Broderick nor Parker directly addressed the rumors. Parker simply stated that she does not discuss her marriage publicly, and that neither she nor her husband has ever felt compelled to respond to gossip about their relationship. She did, however, address reports more recently that she and Broderick had gotten into a “screaming match.” She made a public statement via Instagram about it.
Parker and Broderick have weathered cheating allegations. Whether they are true, the couple has remained together, celebrating their 28th wedding anniversary in May.
Kevin Hart has been open about his wandering eye
Kevin Hart has been married twice. During both marriages, he has been caught cheating. While his first marriage ended in divorce, largely because of his infidelity, his second marriage is still hanging on despite his being caught with other women. His wife, Eniko Hart, was pregnant at the time. The cheating scandal became the basis for one of his more recent stand-up comedy specials. He discussed his earlier extramarital pursuits during previous specials.
In 2017, Kevin Hart took to social media to apologize to Eniko Hart. The stand-up comic claimed he was being extorted after cheating on his wife while she was pregnant with his child. He claimed the incident made him reevaluate his behavior and his ego. Later, Eniko, whom Torie Hart says was Kevin’s mistress during their marriage, revealed she learned about the betrayal via social media. Eniko and Kevin Hart discussed the incident and their decision to stay together in his Netflix docuseries, Kevin Hart: Don’t F**k This Up.
