Jaaved Jaaferi’s Mediterranean Oasis

Jaaved’s recent move to Bandra is inspired by sentimental reverence, not just for the coastal suburb but also for his two elder children, Meezaan and Alaviaa. He says, “Earlier my problem with Bandra was that, with the amount of construction everywhere, buildings are situated amusingly close together where you can open the door and ask for a cup of sugar. But when I saw this place I just fell in love’’. After hours of discussion and brainstorming, his succinct brief to Kush Bhayani of KULx Studio was to create a space with minimal sophistication. “Warm, natural, eclectic.’’ And so, Kush, with the help of Polyfloors India, designed a home that hangs heavy with history…a mature, expansive twin of his family home with Mediterranean design ethos.
To harmoniously tie the 7,000-square-foot abode, overlooking the deceptively placid Arabian Sea, Kush resorted to the shades of the earth, a refreshing sight to behold. The spaciousness of the living room is instantly humbled by a minimal Mediterranean finish. The “plush, earth-toned’’ furnishings breed a blend of comfort and style, and a variety of green results in a “soothing ambience’’. As the family gathers, admiring the space, on their sage two-sided sofa by Amardeep Design, Jaaved smiles and confirms, “this place is a combination of three varying sensibilities.’’

Karan Johar’s Bachelor Pad
I would highly recommend that if you have a friend who is an interior expert, you get them to design your home,” Karan Johar says with a laugh. “Gauri (Khan) gave this home so much love, which really shows in every corner.”
When Johar decided that the approximately 5,500-square-foot apartment extension to his penthouse home, nestled in a quiet cul-de-sac off Bandra’s Pali Hill, needed a gut renovation, Khan was the only choice. The home with its wraparound terrace served Johar, his mother Hiroo, and his twins Roohi and Yash tremendously during the lockdown. “It’s such a vast space, and with no furniture around, the kids could run around and play. Every evening, once Roohi and Yash were done with virtual schooling, we would gather there for chai, and get in some family time.” His brief to Gauri was simple: Convert it into an airy, one-bedroom bachelor pad and get it done fast. “At 50, I wanted this to be my very own space — with a large living room for bringing my friends together, and a bedroom with, of course, a massive wardrobe. I joke to Gauri that what she’s created is not a walk-in but a run-in, and my bathroom, well, you can play cricket in there!”
