29 Shortest Celebrity Marriages of All Time

There’s something about Hollywood that makes people fall in love fast — and fall out of it even faster. For every couple that makes it decades (looking at you, om Hanks and Rita Wilson!), there are plenty of others who barely make it past the honeymoon. Or the flight home. Or the weekend.

Britney Spears’ 5 a.m. Vegas wedding to Jason Alexander still holds the record here — the marriage was annulled 55 hours later. Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries’ headline-making marriage stretched to 72 days, while Carmen Electra and Dennis Rodman’s spur-of-the-moment Vegas wedding fell apart in a little over a week.

Some of these lavish celebrity marriages ended with tabloid headlines and public meltdowns. Others quietly dissolved without much explanation at all. A few pairings felt mismatched from the start, while others were swept up in momentum that couldn’t withstand day-to-day reality. Impulsive decisions, family tension, cheating revelations — the reasons varied, but the speed rarely did.

Whether the commitment lasted a weekend, a handful of days, or a few chaotic months, these whirlwind weddings remain some of Hollywood’s fastest dissolving unions. Ahead, the short-lived celebrity marriages that ended almost as quickly as they began — and the wild stories behind their splits.

Emily Osment & Jack Anthony: 5 Months

Disney alum Emily Osment kept her October 2024 wedding to Jack Anthony under the radar – and the end of the marriage under wraps too. Osment filed for divorce after just five months as husband and wife, citing irreconcilable differences.

The Hannah Montana star was optimistic in the first days of wedded life (even joking “these past four days have been glorious”), but by that winter it was over. “Ultimately, it didn’t work out,” Osment said simply in a statement after the split, proving that even a low-key romance isn’t guaranteed to last.

Nicky Hilton & Todd Andrew Meister: 2 Months

Hotel heiress Nicky Hilton’s first trip down the aisle was a Vegas spur-of-the-moment wedding with businessman Todd Meister in August 2004. Paris Hilton (Nicky’s sister) served as bridesmaid for the 2:30 a.m. ceremony, and friends said the couple seemed very much in love. Yet by November – roughly two months later – the young bride and groom had their marriage annulled, blaming the bicoastal distance. “Both parties have ended the marriage amicably, and they remain good friends,” their reps noted in a joint statement.

Gerry Turner & Theresa Nist: 3 Months

The Golden Bachelor proved it’s never too late to find love but our hearts were broken when the show’s lead, Gerry Turner, split from his first pick, Theresa Nist, after 3 months of marriage.

The duo wed in January 2024 after meeting on the show the previous year.

“We just feel like it’s best for the happiness of each of us to live apart,” Turned said in a statement, “I still love this person. There’s no doubt in my mind.”

Britney Spears & Sam Asghari: 14 Months

After 14 months of marriage, Britney Spears and Sam Asghari split in 2023. Per DailyMail, Asghari has allegedly moved out of their shared home. Soon after the news broke, in August 16, Asghari filed for divorce. The pair started dating in 2016 and later got engaged in 2021. In August 2025, Spears said that the marriage was a “fake distraction” during her controversial conservatorship.

Nicolette Sheridan & Aaron Phypers: 6 Months

Before he married Denise Richards in 2018, Aaron Phypers was briefly married to former Desperate Housewives star Nicolette Sheridan for six months in 2015. Their divorce was finalized in 2016, per People.

Chris Appleton & Lukas Gage: 6 Months

In April 2023, Kim Kardashian officiated her hairstylist Chris Appleton’s wedding to Euphoria star Lukas Gage after their whirlwind months-long romance. However, their union didn’t last long and the couple filed for divorce after just short of seven months after they said, “I do.”

“You can love someone and there not be a forever happy ending,” Appleton told Jay Shetty on the On Purpose podcast in August 2025, per E News. “And just because it’s not forever doesn’t mean it didn’t mean something.”

Colton Haynes & Jeff Leatham: 6 Months

The so-called Kardashian curse might extend to marriages they officiate too because before Kim married Appleton and Gage, her mom played a hand in the wedding ceremony of another short-lived couple.

Actor Colton Haynes married Kardashian florist Jeff Leatham six months before Haynes filed for divorce in May 2018. Haynes later told Attitude that the period was tough and led to some substance abuse issues: “I got married and that didn’t work out. That was extremely public and heart-breaking, and right when that was going on, my mom died.”

Pamela Anderson & Dan Hayhurst: 1 Year

Pamela Anderson has been continuously unlucky in love. The actress wed her bodyguard, sometime in 2020 before splitting after a year of marriage. This was Anderson’s fifth marriage.

Sophia Bush & Grant Hughes: 13 Months

Sophia Bush and her husband Grant Hughes announced their divorce after just 13 months of marriage in August 2023, People reports. “Sophia and Grant were friends for 10 years and bonded during COVID through their love of community service,” a source told the outlet. “They continue to run their nonprofit together and remain good friends.”

Kim Kardashian & Kris Humphries: 72 Days

After a six-month courtship, Kim Kardashian married NBA player Kris Humphries in a 2011 wedding that cost millions of dollars. Their relationship, proposal and wedding were documented on Keeping Up with the Kardashians, of course.

Kardashian filed for divorce 72 days later. But Humphries didn’t let her off the hook that easy, and their divorce process lasted far longer than their marriage. Kim was actually pregnant with her first child with Kanye West when the divorce was finalized.

Jennifer Lopez & Cris Judd: 4 Months

In 2002, right after Jennifer Lopez ended her relationship with P. Diddy, she married backup dancer Cris Judd. The marriage lasted four months. Lopez was engaged to Ben Affleck later that year, though that relationship ended shortly after.

Judd later said the media attention made it hard to live a “normal life,”: “You kind of have to take it and accept it and embrace it,” Judd said to Us Weekly in 2014. “Once you stop fighting it, it smoothes itself over. If you try to keep that privacy, it drives you nuts and that’s why people break.”

Bradley Cooper & Jennifer Esposito: 4 Months

Pre Hangover fame, Bradley Cooper was married to fellow actress Jennifer Esposito. The pair lasted only four months, with Esposito filing for divorce. Cooper then moved onto Renée Zellweger whom he dated for six years and later welcomed a baby with his now-ex Irina Shayk.

Cooper has been dating Gigi Hadid since October 2023, and the marriage rumors have been heating up.

Jennifer Lopez & Ojani Noa: 313 Days (10 Months)

Before there was Ben Affleck, Marc Anthony, or even Cris Judd, there was Ojani Noa, a waiter at Gloria Estefan’s restaurant and J.Lo’s first husband, who she married in Feb. 1997.

After 313 days, they went their separate ways — and his threats to expose sex tapes of her in the years since suggest it wasn’t pretty.

Britney Spears & Jason Alexander: 55 Hours

During a very wild weekend in 2004, Britney Spears married childhood friend Jason Alexander at A Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas.

Fifty-five hours later, the marriage was annulled, with paperwork citing Britney “lacked understanding of her actions to the extent that she was incapable of agreeing to the marriage.”

In her 2023 memoir The Woman in Me Spears admitted the quickie marriage wasn’t about love at all: “I was just honestly very drunk — and probably, in a more general sense at that time in my life, very bored,” she wrote.

Lisa Marie Presley & Nicholas Cage: 3 Months

Nicholas Cage, a self-proclaimed Elvis Presley fanatic, married the King’s daughter, Lisa Marie, in 2002 (on the anniversary of Elvis’ death, no less). The marriage lasted only 108 days before Presley filed for divorce.

“I’m sad about this, but we shouldn’t have been married in the first place,” Presley said in a statement issued by her publicist, Paul Bloch, per People.

For the record, her marriage to Michael Jackson even outlasted this one — a whole 9 months.

Elisabeth Moss & Fred Armisen: 8 Months

The Handmaid’s Tale actress and SNL star married in 2009 after a year of dating but after 8 months called it quits.

Moss has not held back when it comes to criticizing her relationship with Armisen, telling Page Six in 2012, “One of the greatest things I heard someone say about him is, ‘He’s so great at doing impersonations. But the greatest impersonation he does is that of a normal person.’ To me, that sums it up.”

In another interview with Vulture that year, she described the romance as “extremely traumatic and awful and horrible.”

Mario Lopez & Ali Landry: 2 Weeks

Back in 2004, Mario Lopez and Ali Landry said their “I do’s” only to call it off two weeks later when she discovered that the reports she’d been hearing of his rampant cheating up to her wedding and after had been through — by finally agreeing to tap his phone with her sister.

Luckily, it was short enough that they were able to get it annulled.

Renée Zellweger & Kenny Chesney: 4 Months

Actress Renée Zellweger and country star Kenny Chesney’s May 2005 island wedding made headlines – as did Zellweger’s annulment filing just four months later, citing “fraud” on the paperwork. In 2007, the Bridget Jones star didnt pull any punches, calling the marriage the “biggest personal mistake of my life.”

Eddie Murphy & Tracey Edmonds: 2 Weeks

Eddie Murphy married Babyface’s ex-wife in Bora Bora after a year of dating on New Year’s Eve in 2008.

The couple apparently had a change of heart just two weeks later and decided not to make their marriage legal in the U.S. The split was said to be amicable.

Drew Barrymore & Tom Green: 5 Months

An odd pair, Drew Barrymore and comedian Tom Green often teased fans with their upcoming wedding back in 2001, even hinting it would happen on Saturday Night Live. The couple of one year did get married in a private ceremony, but were divorced just five months later. Fortunately, the two have remained friendly, and Green has even made appearances on Barrymore’s talk show. 

Janet Jackson & James DeBarge: 1 Year

Janet Jackson made headlines back in 1984 after eloping with James DeBarge when she was just 18 years old. The marriage was annulled the following year.

Shannen Doherty & Ashley Hamilton: 5 Months

After knowing each other for only two weeks, Beverly Hills 90210 star Shannen Doherty married George Hamilton’s son, Ashley. At the time, Shannen Doherty was 22 years old, while Hamilton was just 19. Doherty filed for divorce 5 months later.

Miley Cyrus & Liam Hemsworth: 8 Months

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth’s on-off love story began in 2010, two years before their first engagement.

After a three-year break between 2013 and 2016, it seemed like the pair finally found their happily ever after when they tied the knot in December 2018. However, they split for good just 8 months later.

“What really sucked about it wasn’t the fact that me and someone that I loved realized that we don’t love each other the way that we used to anymore,” Cyrus said of their high-profile divorce in 2020. “That’s okay. I can accept that. I can’t accept the villainizing and just all those stories.”

Colin Farrell & Amelia Warner: 4 Months

Jamie Dornan’s now-wife, Amelia Warner, was at one time Colin Farrell’s wife… sort of. Back in 2001, Warner and Farrell were married after dating for a year, but called it quits four months later.

Warner later revealed the marriage wasn’t actually legally-binding: “We had a ceremony on a beach in Tahiti that was by no means legal and we knew it wasn’t… It was just a thing we did on holiday.”

Dennis Rodman & Carmen Electra: 9 Days

Carmen Electra and Dennis Rodman were married at the Little Chapel of the Flowers in Las Vegas in January 1998 after eight months of dating.

Six days later, Rodman filed for an annulment claiming he was inebriated. He retracted his filing, and the couple attempted to make the mistake marriage work for six months before Electra filed for divorce. “Our relationship was very passionate. When it was good, it was amazing. And when it was bad, it was the worst,” Electra later said – even advising others “not get married in Vegas” after her spur-of-the-moment nuptials.

Sophia Bush & Chad Michael Murray: 5 Months

Teen hearts shattered when One Tree Hill sweethearts Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray split 5 months after their 2005 wedding amid reports that Murray was unfaithful.

The two continued working together on that show, sometimes sharing romantic scenes, until 2009.

In a 2022 episode of her podcast, Bush discussed how she managed to keep her composure while working with her ex.

“People can call it whatever they want. They can say it’s strength, they can say it’s pride, they can say its professionalism — you can put a positive or a negative skew on it,” she said. “But I was always going to put Brooke Davis ahead of everybody and everything else. Nothing mattered to me but being honest for her.”

Pamela Anderson & Kid Rock: 4 Months

Even getting married three times doesn’t mean it’ll last. Case in point: Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock.

The couple was first married on a yacht in St. Tropez on July 29, 2006. They then made it official at a Beverly Hills courthouse a few days later on August 3 and had their third wedding on stage on August 17 in Nashville. They both filed for divorce just four months later.

The split was attributed to irreconcilable differences (in her 2023 memoir, Love, Pamela, she explainend a spat over a Borat movie cameo pushed them over the edge). Kid Rock later indicated he wasn’t eager to stay pals with his ex. When asked if he kept in touch with Anderson on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2008, he quipped, “I touched [the] stove, stove was hot, I think I not touch stove anymore.”

Amber Heard & Johnny Depp: 15 Months

Amber Heard and Johnny Depp’s marriage lasted just over 15 months. Heard filed for divorce in 2016, alleging abuse (which Depp denied). Their split led to years of legal battles and public scrutiny, quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s most scrutinized, volatile marriages.

Since then, Heard has rebuilt her life — along with a family — on her own terms. She welcomed daughter  Oonagh Paige Heard in April 2021, and four years later, on Mother’s Day, she welcomed twins Agnes and Ocean into her life. She called it the “completion of the family I’ve strived to build.” She keeps their lives private, but every once in a while will share a rare family photo.

Luann de Lesseps & Tom D’Agostino Jr.: 7 Months

After beginning their relationship in 2015, Real Housewives of New York City star Luann de Lesseps married Tom D’Agostino Jr. on New Year’s Eve in 2016. Cheating rumors plagued their romance but they still managed to make it down the aisle.

However, it wasn’t meant to last and the couple announced their divorce just seven months later on August 4.
